Friday August 1, 2008 Update (Inside)

The metal studs are being installed and the inside is beginning to take shape. The gym has a great layout that will make it very useful. Due to there being no electricity the pictures are based on the flash of the camera.

This is the view looking in the front door. This will be a meeting area and four classrooms are on each side, two on one side and two on the other.

Monday July 28, 2008 Update

Here is an update from Pastor Parrish...

"Brick and mortar and sand have been delivered and the brick masons should arrive Tuesday. The roof is being finished but the front gym facing needs some trim flashing to tie the two roof heights together and the manufacturer left those out. they will ship ASAP. then that roof facing can be completed.

The metal studs will go into the walls soon and after the brick masons next will come the EFICE board with a stucco look on the outside walls above the brick.

We authorized an upgrade of the paint to Industrial enamel which holds up ten times better than normal wall paint. Kitchen, restrooms and 12 feet high in the gym will have this and the rest will be Eggshell grade paint which also holds up better than flat and has some sheen to it. Tile will be in the Foyer, hall, restrooms and kitchen. Carpet will be in the classrooms and the gym floor is a completely separate company that will put down a proven multipurpose use floor at a cost of almost $30,000.

We have opted for Portable basketball goals the style used by the NBA in arenas that do not have fixed goals. They cost $4300 each with a 72inch Plexiglas backboard. We plan to have inserts in the floor for volleyball goals and opted for a nice $2800 volleyball goal set that has adjustable net height and tension adjuster."

July 24 Update

More progress to show with this posting. Pastor Parrish shared recently in an email as he continues to monitor the progress and keep a close eye on the project...

"The gym is slowly making progress. Three sides are up with the steel siding and some of the roof is in place. They will finish the roof then the front will go on with windows. Next week they may begin to brick 4 feet 8 inches up from the foundation and then Efice board and Cement smear like Stucco on top of the steel siding. Doors are hung and the sprinkler system line and fire hydrant are in place."

A Walk Around

Pastor Parrish writes...

The metal skeleton for the gym is just about finished and they will begin either the roof or insulating I imagine. The Construction company has about 5 men working this morning.

We dodged a bullet yesterday we trust. Duke power does not have 3 phase power available at our location. It is some distance to where they have it. The two 15 ton gas packs to run the gym will require 3 phase power. If we changed to Single phase they would have to split those into 4 units and spend additional funds for ducting and the additional units would be more expensive.

The Duke Engineer met with our electrician and us yesterday and has agreed to submit his request for Duke to build the lines for us to have the 3 phase power.

They will have to set additional poles near the line at the apartments next door and come up the back side of our property to leave our field area open for future building.

Ask The Lord to work on the Duke staff so the timing will work out on this project. If they can do this within a month we should be ready by then for the power. We will obtain temporary power prior to that for construction. Up to now they have used drop cords from our building and a generator and battery powered equipment.

Building Projects face many challenges.

God uses these to teach us many things.

Raising the Walls

This week the gym will really begin to take shape as the steel walls will be raised. All the steel has been delivered and will be put together. Pray for good weather and also safety for those working on the building.

Pastor Parrish shares in a recent email...

The construction company is laying out plans for the steel to begin setting tomorrow (Tuesday) and the 6 Inch water line is going in today with the electrician placing the line for the Sprinkler Fire alarm in it's ditch also. They had to set a vault 7 feet deep that is 5 feet by 7 feet with a back flow valve then the 6 inch pipe and Fire hydrant and each place there is a 90 degree elbow they much back it with concrete so the concrete truck will be here shortly. It is a pretty muddy job right now after the rain we got over the weekend.
